Prior bookings are required for individuals with service animals, and animal vaccination/worming certificates and evidence of the service animals training must be provided.. Service Animals are allowed within the zoo however are limited to specific areas due to strict animal quarantine procedures. Guests with service animals have 2 options. Firstly, guests are able to leave their service animal with staff outside the quarantine area, and proceed into the zoo as a regular guest. Service animals are housed in an indoor area with bedding, water, access to an outdoor toilet area, and are under constant staff supervision. Alternatively, guests with service dogs entering the zoo will be accompanied by a zoo staff member at all times, to ensure quarantine protocols are maintained. The service animals is unable to enter several open walk-through enclosures, however alternative routes are available, and a map detailing these areas is available upon enquiry.

Assistance Dogs looked after by the zoo:
Wherever possible, the AD will be cared for in an office near the zoo entrance or in a zoo holding facility. ADs left in an office or holding facility will be checked on regularly by staff but may not be in their presence for the whole time. NZA will ensure that the AD is secure in the area and has adequate water, shelter and ventilation.
Assistance Dogs accompanying visitors into the zoo:
NZA will provide a guide to escort the visitor and AD to the areas of the zoo that are deemed by the zoo to be safe for the AD and for the zoo animals, along with staff and other visitors. When accompanied by their AD, visitors will only be able to access these pre-determined areas. Where required, NZA will transfer the visitor and their AD to their transport at the end of the visit.
